Photographing for Non-Profits

Whew!  It’s been a busy few weeks for photography!  Lately, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a lot of events including jobs for the Center for Autism and Dyslexia and the National Day of Prayer organization.  I’ve met some amazing people through these opportunities and am excited to have had the privilege to document these events.

The Center for Autism & Dyslexia has offices located in the Lima and Findlay, Ohio areas and specializes in serving the needs of children and families affected by autism.  At a walk that was held in Bluffton, “Stepping Out for Autism,” there were families of all ages to raise money for the cause.  Though the weather didn’t want to cooperate with us the whole time, it was great to see so many individuals who had come out for the event.  Kids were able to play games such as Corn Hole and played with a parachute with beanbag animals, which brought back memories of my elementary school days :)  The event also had face painting and crafts for the kids.  One of my favorite parts was looking at all of the beautiful artwork that was for sale that children had done through the Center.  To protect the identity of the children, no photos of the children will be posted.

The National Day of Prayer was a great event as well where over 100 individuals came out on May 1st for the youth event, and an equal amount came out for the May 5th main event.  Both events were held at the Fairgrounds in Findlay, OH where a sand sculpture created by Roger Powell was on display depicting the crucifixion of Jesus.   The idea behind the youth event was to create interactive stations of prayer where youth would contemplate the power of prayer and why it’s an essential part of everyday life.  During the main event, stories were shared about faith and prayer and worship music was sung.  It was definitely a great couple of nights had by all!
