I’m so excited to share with you this session I did not too long ago in the cold north of Ohio. Winter is always a tough season for me where I live, specifically because of the harsh cold temperatures (I’m always cold anyway!) and the long stint of grayness that sets in before the warmer temperatures of spring arrive. I think in the month of December, we had a total of maybe five days that were sunny. We ended up not having a lot of snow that month (it decided to wait until January, February and March for that) but the dreariness always seems to affect my mood. This year, I decided to do something a little different, as I wanted to see a brighter side to winter. Thanks to my friend Tabitha who was a great sport about getting knee-high in the snow, we decided to change winter up a bit and put some splashes of color in and around the dead and gray. The results were even better than what I hoped they could be :-)
When I first approached Tabitha about this session, I was sharing with her some of my ideas about how to get a look that showed “pops of color” amidst the cold landscape of winter. She gathered a great variety of hats, scarves, gloves and other accessories that helped depict just that.
So when the day came to do the session, we decided to have a lot of fun with it! For some of the images, I was aiming for a look that would show spontaneity as well as complete joy for life. And in others, I was looking for something more serious yet captivating in the way the image could tell a story leaving you wondering more about the person in front of the camera. All in all, Tabitha helped me capture that and I ended up with more favorites than I knew what to do with :-) So a big thank you and shout out goes to Tabitha for braving the cold with me and helping me create such a fun and inspiring idea of how to beat the winter blues and anticipate the coming of spring.
Here’s to many more opportunities of taking something that can be seen as dreary and harsh and making it majestic and fun with a few simple ideas of creativity!
